Species Description
The Eastern Plantain Eater is a large, arboreal, near-passerine bird. A member of the turaco family, it is a resident breeder in the open woodlands of tropical east Africa. Like the turaco, the Eastern Plantain Eater is a noisy and conspicuous bird, with its “cow-cow-cow” call a common sound in east African forests; however, it lacks the bright colors of its relatives, though it does possess a bright yellow beak. As its name suggests, the Eastern Plantain Eater eats plantains, as well as other fruits (especially figs) and seeds.
